Education

East Tennessee State University. - Bachelor’s Degree in Bluegrass, Country & Roots Music, with a concentration in Audio.
Formal training includes ensemble performance, rhythm and timing, ear training, traditional Appalachian and bluegrass repertoire, and audio fundamentals.


Teaching Experience

Angel Chantel is an experienced music educator with a strong background in group instruction, ensemble-based learning, and private lessons. She has taught consistently throughout her career in both structured programs and independent settings, working with beginner through intermediate students.

Her teaching experience includes:

  • American Music School (Colorado, 2019)
    Guitar and vocal instruction for students of varying ages and experience levels, with an emphasis on fundamentals, song-based learning, and building musical confidence.
  • Chuckey Baptist Church Bluegrass School (Tennessee, 2014–2015)
    Weekly instruction as part of a community bluegrass education program. Taught guitar primarily, as well as beginner instruction across multiple string instruments. Focused on foundational technique, rhythm, and group playing skills.
  • Private & Independent Instruction (Ongoing)
    Ongoing private lessons throughout her career, including instruction in upright bass, guitar, vocals, and ensemble skills. Lessons emphasize rhythm, ear training, musical interaction, and confidence-building.

Group & International Music Education

Bass Instructor for The Bluegrass Journeymen Acedemy  

Angel has extensive experience teaching in group-based and immersive learning environments, including international music education work in Kathmandu, Nepal.

She taught at Triyog High School in Kathmandu during the Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 semesters, as part of an after-school music program serving middle school and high school students. The program operated Monday through Friday as an intensive six-week session, offered twice per year.

Angel taught upright bass and ensemble skills, working with three dedicated bass students while participating in instruction for a total program enrollment of approximately 40 students. Instruction focused on group playing, rhythm, listening skills, and collaborative music-making in a cross-cultural setting.


Youth & Camp Instruction

ETSU Bluegrass Summer Camp 2024 – Counselor
Served as a counselor for East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass Summer Camp, a week-long residential program for students ages 12–18. The program hosted nearly 100 students, who stayed on campus in university dorms. Responsibilities included student supervision, mentorship, and support during classes, rehearsals, and activities, as well as assisting with a structured group-learning environment.


Instructional Focus

Angel’s teaching approach is supportive, practical, and music-first, with an emphasis on:

Ensemble playing and jam readiness - Rhythm, timing, and groove - Learning music by ear - Song-based instruction - Encouraging confidence and musical participation

She is particularly interested in jam-based instruction and helping students develop the skills needed to comfortably play music with others.
